Austen Macalus

Content Writer

"If I'm an advocate for anything, it's to move. As far as you can, as much as you can. Across the ocean, or simply across the river. The extent to which you can walk in someone else's shoes or at least eat their food, it's a plus for everybody.”

Anthony Bourdain

As a Content Writer, Austen crafts contributed articles, data reports and other long-form writing assets for enterprise software and technology brands. He joined the editorial team from Walker Sands’ PR department, where he garnered top-tier coverage in the likes of the Wall Street Journal, Reuters and Forbes. Combining his passion for writing, expertise in media relations and background in journalism, Austen delivers content that aligns with client messaging, and expands brand awareness and credibility in their field.

Prior to joining Walker Sands, Austen began his career as a journalist covering everything from higher education to homelessness. He spent stints at newspapers in Washington State and Minnesota, with work appearing in the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Associated Press and USA Today.

Originally from the Twin Cities, Austen graduated from the University of Minnesota with a bachelor’s degree in journalism and political science. When he’s not biking into the Seattle office (yes, even in the rain), you can find Austen exploring the Pacific Northwest and enjoying its natural beauty.
