Looking for an internship to hone your research + strategy skills? Walker Sands believes in leveraging data-driven insights to make informed decisions and drive continuous improvement for our marketing programs. We are looking for a talented and motivated Research + Insights intern to join our Strategy + Insights team for a paid 12-week internship. This position is remote, with reporting into remote and Chicago locations.

Our Research + Insights intern will be responsible for collecting both qualitative and quantitative research and packaging insights to inform strategy, sales and marketing projects with the agency.  You will have the opportunity to contribute to meaningful projects that directly impact our strategic decision-making process. This internship is designed for individuals with a passion for research, a keen interest in quantitative analysis, and the ability to turn data into actionable insights.

We are looking for someone with a strong interest in research, marketing and brand strategy, and turning data into actionable insights. If you’re interested in data collection and observation, that’s good. If you’re interested in taking your collected data and asking, “So what? Now what?” – even better. 

Responsibilities:

  • Data Collection and Analysis:
    • Assist in collecting, cleaning, and analyzing quantitative data from various sources.
    • Utilize statistical methods to identify trends, patterns, and correlations within the data.
    • Analyze interview recordings/transcripts and client-provided materials to identify salient insights.
  • Market Research:
    • Conduct market research to support business strategy and product development.
    • Monitor industry trends, competitor activities, and market dynamics.
  • Insights Generation:
    • Work closely with cross-functional teams to transform data into actionable insights.
    • Provide strategic recommendations based on research findings to support decision-making for brand and marketing strategy projects.
  • Reporting and Visualization:
    • Prepare clear and concise reports, dashboards, and presentations to communicate research findings.
    • Use visualization tools to present quantitative data in an easily understandable format.
  • Workflow Improvement and Collaboration:
    • Research and evaluate AI tools and trends to identify opportunities for enhancing daily workflows, streamlining processes, and improving efficiency across responsibilities.
    • Collaborate with team members on various projects, sharing insights and contributing to a collaborative and innovative work environment.
  • Professional Development:
    • Attend relevant training sessions, workshops, and meetings to enhance your skills and knowledge.
    • Participate in team discussions and contribute ideas to improve processes.

As part of our Research + Insights Internship Program, you will work on a small team for clients that specialize in B2B and technology sectors. At the end of the internship, you will have had in-depth exposure to what it’s like to work in marketing and brand strategy.

Requirements + Qualifications: 

Must-haves

  • Strong quantitative and analytical skills, leveraging data to help inform brand strategy, enhance campaign performance, and drive market impact
  • Proficiency in statistical analysis tools
  • Excellent attention to detail and the ability to work with large datasets
  • Effective written communication skills
  • Willingness to learn and apply new skills 
  • Willingness and ability to work with a remote team via communication and project management tools like Zoom, Slack, and Trello (you don’t need to be experts in those particular tools)

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working in survey collection tools like Survey Monkey, Zoho, or Typeform
  • Experience or education in qualitative research methods
  • Familiarity with basic marketing principles, channels, and basic channel strategy for application of research.
  • Proficiency in data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI)

Internship Details

  • This is a 12-week paid internship that will begin on September 08, 2025. 
  • Candidates for this internship must be eligible for full-time employment upon completion of the program. Students who will remain enrolled in a full-time academic program in the semester immediately following the internship (e.g., college sophomores or juniors continuing their undergraduate education) are not eligible to apply. While full-time employment at Walker Sands is not guaranteed for interns, offers may be extended based on individual performance and the availability of open roles at the agency.
  • All Research + Insights internship candidate finalists must complete a skills test.

Compensation & Benefits:

  • We strive for pay transparency in our hiring process. Pay is only a part of the total rewards package. Below is the starting salary for this role:
  • Hourly Pay Rate: $18 / hour
