Erin has been with the company for almost five years! While she's busy looking for ways to grow her team's practice areas, Erin took the time to give me a glimpse into what life is like at Walker Sands for her.
Here’s what she had to say!
1. What is your role at Walker Sands? What does your day-to-day look like?
As the account director for the retail technology team, I ensure my team has everything they need to service our clients and get great results. I also help keep the team constantly up-to-date on trends in our space. Other activities I work on include survey research to demonstrate our expertise and expand knowledge within the retail space, working on new business and coaching my team to help them grow in their own careers.
2. How has Walker Sands changed since you first started at the company?
The company was much smaller when I started. We only had 15-20 people. One of the best things about Walker Sands is that while the size has grown, we’ve maintained the scrappiness and ‘no idea is too small’ mentality that comes with having small teams.
We’ve come a long way in our expertise and great work. We now have the infrastructure and experience to handle bigger team projects. Growth of our practice areas is one things that has led to our success, and it has helped evolve our knowledge across different client industries. It’s also interesting to see how much our digital team and ecosystem of services have grown alongside PR.
3. What do you like most about working at Walker Sands?
Everybody’s passion about the projects they work on and the clients they work for. I also really enjoy that the expertise you gain at Walker Sands goes deeper than PR. You get to learn the in-depth details of our B2B clients and their respective industries so well.
Honestly though, It’s the people that I like most about working here. It’s great to go to work with a smart people who I enjoy being around every day.
4. What sets Walker Sands apart?
From a client perspective, it’s our ability to understand industries and verticals down to their cores. This helps us produce the best work possible. Our knowledge of B2B technology and what drives placements, traffic and leads allows us to integrate many channels and strategies into client campaigns, which takes them to the next level.
From an employee perspective, we’re a people-first organization. There’s ample opportunity at Walker Sands, no matter your job title. The same goes for sharing ideas -- everyone is welcome to speak up, and everyone is willing to listen. Walker Sands also offers the entrepreneurial feel of running your own team and building something yourself, which is exciting environment to work in.
5. What excites you most about the next year at Walker Sands? The next three years?
I’m excited to see how the entire organization grows in 2017. More specifically, I’m excited to see how my team members continue to grow and expand their expertise and client base, as well as in their own careers. We’ve grown tremendously in the past year and have hired extremely smart and hardworking people, in addition to adding great clients to our roster. I’m excited to see that continue!
Beyond that, I’m excited for our agency to take on new challenges in the market. There will be many opportunities to grow new areas of expertise in the next few years, and for new leaders on my team to rise up and own this expansion. Beyond that, I look forward to seeing how our ideas continue to fuel the industry and the bigger campaigns that are to come.
6. Is there a piece of work that you're particularly proud of during your time at Walker Sands?
I’m very proud of our annual Future of Retail report, which we’re currently working on for the our fourth year running. It’s been fun to learn more about the industry, and it’s exciting to see how our ideas have positioned us as thought leaders in the retail technology space. The study has changed a lot over four years, as has the retail space. It’s become bigger than we could have ever imagined!
7. What is life like when you’re not at Walker Sands?
I love to enjoy this awesome city, whether that’s through biking, hanging out with friends, running, learning a new instrument, eating at a new restaurant or just exploring.
