Question & Answer

What are Pawtags’ exclusive features?

Pawtags are not ordinary pet ID tags. The main focus is not just identification, but processes put in place to rescue and help owners search for lost pets as well. Each tag has its own custom ID number. Members purchase the tag and go through an easy online registration process. This creates an extensive profile of the pet and their owner specifically catered to rescuing the pet if they get lost.

Members can list up to ten contact phone numbers, rabies id, microchip, city licensing numbers, pet description, and medical information. Highly trained live operators assist finders of lost pets with Google mapping, three way conferencing with pet owners, and emergency drop-off locations.

Pawtags also provides the nation’s first PAWS® Alert lost pet search module that gives owners lost pet posters and an accurate list of all animal control facilities registered with NACA (over 10,000) to search for their pet. Most people do not understand these locations are the only facilities pets that are captured end up at.

Are Pawtags durable?

Pawtags are made from strong heavy-duty brass. Coloration is baked on and the ID numbers are “deep-stamped” so they will not wear. For additional longevity and protection the tags are epoxy coated to seal and weatherproof them. Pawtags are guaranteed for the life of your pet.

Are microchips the best pet identification?

Microchips do provide good pet protection. However, they are only useful “after” the pet has already been rescued. The animal has to be rescued and taken to a location that has scanner capabilities. There are numerous microchip companies selling chips with different readable frequencies. This requires multiple scanners and all locations do not have all the scanners. Which means even if microchipped, a pet runs the risk of not being identified. Some facilities only allow three days before an unidentified animal is euthanized.

Microchips are the size of a grain of rice and when scanned only provide an ID number and the manufacturer name. Facility staff have to then call these locations and relay information through them to then get in touch with the owners. Reports also show that nearly 45% of microchip owners have not registered their contact information with the chip companies which eliminates any return possibility. Some chip companies offer live support but add additional fees for the service. With Pawtags it’s all inclusive and immediate live operator assistance. Pawtags recommends the micro-chipping of pets as added protection.

What about GPS search systems?

There are a few national services for GPS pet products. They are skewed more towards larger animals and would be too large for most small dogs and cats. The price points for a unit are generally around $300 with additional monthly fees that range in the neighborhood of $25 per month. Most batteries to support the units are expensive and require daily recharging.

What if a lost pet loses its collar and tag?

In the event of a lost pet, Pawtags stresses the need to act quickly and often in checking local animal control facilities personally to look for your pet.
