eCoupled technology
is a revolutionary new development available through Fulton Innovation -
a member of the Alticor Inc. family of corporations. Fulton Innovation is
dedicated to commercializing new and innovative technologies.
In development for many years, eCoupled technology enables intelligent wireless electrical power and data transfer by means of inductive coupling. The product has been deployed in Alticor water treatment products for six years. Nearly a million devices with eCoupled technology, representing over $1.2 billion in sales, have been sold to date. As licensing begins, eCoupled will soon be used to wirelessly charge cell phones, mp3 players, and other electrical devices provided by the top brands in the country.
The technology leverages inductive coupling, which works by transferring energy from one device to another through a shared electromagnetic field. eCoupled is a unique solution in the wireless power arena in that it optimizes power transfer, includes an intelligent feedback and control system, adapts and enables positional flexibility, and overcomes historic limitations by using resonance-seeking circuitry.

Fulton Innovations planned to debut eCoupled technology at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, Nevada. They identified CES as the perfect platform to bring awareness to the undiscovered technology and to achieve a dominant position in the new market space. They realized that CES was a huge investment that could really pay off if executed correctly.
They also needed to attract new manufacturers to license eCoupled technology. When the time came to take the first step, the company began to realize the lack of extensive in-house expertise for the initiative. As a result, eCoupled technology was in the need of outside expertise to refine its positioning and ensure media attention.
Once Fulton Innovations identified their needs, the company began to seek out an ideal partner – one that could ensure the effectiveness of initiatives by providing full-service support and flexibility in debuting eCoupled technology.
The company elected to partner with Walker Sands Communications for assistance in launching the eCoupled brand. Walker Sands provided the entire PR, marketing, and design support needed to debut eCoupled technology successfully, generate sales, and maintain media coverage. Activities executed by Walker Sands include:
Initial outreach to the media began six-to-eight weeks before CES in the form of e-mails and calls to top technology reporters and editors, and constituted a significant role in generating interest for eCoupled technology. This initial interest resulted in a number of publications - such as The Chicago Tribune, PC Magazine, e-Week, CIO, Red Herring and Gizmodo-previewing the technology before its official debut at the show
The ongoing flurry of media activity continued with coverage from The Boston Globe, U.S. News & World Report and The Washington Post. In addition to basic interviews, a variety of video segments were filmed, including those from BBC News, Forbes, Fox News, CNN, and Gizmodo.
The constant media activity both at CES and after has attracted the attention of potential partner companies, sales, and on-going internal and external growth. Walker Sands has established a valuable framework for continuing media interest for CES next years and beyond.
