| WOOD TV8 September 1, 2004 If you are thinking of camping this Labor Day weekend, but can't bare to be electronically out-of-touch, Grand Haven and Holland are the places for you.
On Wednesday morning, officials with the Michigan Department of Information Technology and SBC Communications unveiled their new wireless Internet service at state parks, docks and rest areas. The program is called Mi-Wi-Fi, or Michigan Wireless Fidelity. Right now it's available at Holland State Park and Grand Haven State Park. State officials hope the service will attract even more campers, even business people and students. "While we have envisioned the possibilities, we haven't envisioned the full extent. People will be creative with the capabilities going forward," said Teri Takai, the state's Director of Department of Information Technology. The SBC service costs $8 a day or $19.95 a month. You can also get Wi-Fi service in Grand Haven through Ottawa Wireless, which will cost you $5 a day or $24.99 a month. In order to access the wireless systems, users need a Wi-Fi enabled computer and a credit card to create an account. Copyright © 2004. WOOD TV8.
