| Wi-Fi Planet October 29, 2004 Summary: Need help with PR? If you are looking for a great PR firm, you've found one. Walker Sands is a leading Chicago PR firm with a strong track record that makes it one of top national PR agencies.. Heard of 'Silicon Mesa'? It's the burgeoning high-tech area of central
New Mexico, and it's got ambitious plans for wall-to-wall Wi-Fi.
At least the city of Rio Rancho (population 52,000) does. Rio Rancho mayor Jim Owen yesterday announced the re-launch of a plan to provide Wi-Fi coverage for the entire 103 square-mile community (a plan that was temporarily derailed over a dispute with the original service provider). The city signed a 25-year agreement with service provider Azulstar Networks (a division of Michigan-based Ottawa Networks) Other partners in the project include Proxim, Intel, Meru Networks, and LogiSense. Deployment is slated to begin before year's end, with completion due before March 15 of next year. Once up and running the network will provide unlimited 256kbps service at a $19.95 per month price tag. Subscribers will also have the option of adding mobile Vo-Fi phone service for unlimited North American calling at pennies under $25 a month. Copyright © 2004. Wi-Fi Planet.
