Small business pay in the South increased at the second-worst rate in the country from June to July, a survey said Wednesday. The SurePayroll small business employment data is compiled by the supplier of employee compensation services based on information from 15,000 companies. From June to July, the Southern small business pay index rose 0.2 percent, trailing only Midwest pay, which fell 0.1 percent. Northeast small business pay rose 1.9 percent, while Western pay climbed 0.4 percent. Nationally, small business pay rose 0.3 percent.
