Texas businesses reduced staffing slightly from May to June, but increased
pay by an average of 4.6 percent.
Texas posted a staffing decline of 0.7 percent. But salaries in Texas have risen every month since August 2005, said Michael Alter, president of SurePayroll of Skokie, Ill. "The average take-home paycheck of an employee in Texas in June went up to $1,085," Alter said. "That would be a take-home income of $26,995 on an annual basis." Nationwide, small business hiring increased in June. SurePayroll manages 16,000 small business accounts — more than
1,000 of them in Texas. The company considers a small business one that
