Rachel Lira

Media Relations Specialist

Rachel Lira, Walker Sands

As a media relations specialist, Rachel works alongside her team to garner media coverage for marketing tech and marketing services clients, including Yes Lifecycle Marketing, Sprout Social and InMoment. Her day-to-day duties include developing new pitch angles, conducting outreach to reporters and earning media opportunities with top-tier business outlets and trade publications.

Before coming aboard at Walker Sands, Rachel interned with a boutique Chicago PR firm, securing media coverage for numerous hospitality, restaurant and theatre clients. She is a graduate of the University of Missouri with a bachelor’s degree in journalism, with an emphasis in strategic communication. She also completed minors in Spanish, business and women’s and gender studies.

If ever away from her desk at work, you can probably find Rachel seeking out caffeine at the nearest Keurig or else downstairs at the Dollop coffee shop, telling herself that of course she deserves that lavender honey latte.

Q&A with Rachel Lira

What is your favorite book of all time?

Gone With the Wind. It’s the only book I’ll read over and over again besides the Harry Potter series. I cry every time.

What is your favorite place in Chicago that isn't a typical tourist destination?

The Randolph Street Market! My sister and I love going during the summer to shop for some vintage decor in the sunshine.

Would you rather have the office stocked 24/7 with Starbucks coffee or Garrett popcorn?

I’m worried that having access to some Chicago mix at all times would ruin it for me, and that would be tragic. Caffeine is always a good thing, so I’m going with Starbucks.

One thing people in the world wouldn't know about you?

People frequently ask me if I’m Italian because of my last name since, before the euro, the lira was Italy’s currency. I am not Italian but rather Irish on my mom’s side and Mexican on my dad’s.

If you could live anywhere else in the world where would it be?

Paris. I’d have to learn French first, but I can’t say I’d really mind.
