Small-business hiring inched back into positive territory last month, according to the September 2006 SurePayroll Small Business Scorecard.

“This is only the third month this year in which we’ve seen positive gains in small-business hiring,” notes Michael Alter, president of SurePayroll. “Without a doubt, the Fed’s decision last month to leave interest rates unchanged has had a positive effect on the small-business economy.”

Small-business salaries continued their upward trend, with the average small-business salary nationwide now standing at an annualized rate of $30,942. September marked the thirteenth consecutive month in which salaries have increased, according to SurePayroll’s data.
