The South is on a roll, according to the November SurePayroll Small Business Scorecard, an economic indicator that tracks the health of U.S. small businesses.

The South is the only region in the country that has seen both the number of businesses' employees and the size of those employees' paychecks increase year-to-date.

In the Midwest and West, small businesses have been adding employeees, but salaries are down on average. In the Northeast, businesses are getting smaller, but average paychecks have increased year-to-date.

Nationally, for the year, small businesses have increased in size by 3.6 percent on average, but paychecks are down 3.8 percent.
