to decline last month, according to the June SurePayroll
Small Business Scorecard, an economic indicator that tracks the health
of U.S. small businesses.
The index ended June at 10,435, 5 points down from where the index stood at the end of May, making the 10th straight month of negative or flat hiring in the small-business economy. But small-business salaries rose for the 10th consecutive month, up 0.4 percent from May. While higher salaries suggest inflation, SurePayroll President Michael Alter views the June increase as relatively modest. "We are seeing a slowdown in salary increases," said Alter.
