Exporting More Than 500 Rows of Data From Google Analytics
Just a quick post from me today to share a good Google Analytics tip.
When working with Google analytics data, the problem that arises is how to export more than 500 rows of data.
This problem is relevant to many of the Walker Sands clients for whom we manage their pay-per-click (PPC) marketing and/or do their organic search engine optimization (SEO) work.
When you manage PPC budgets of $50,000 to $100,000 per month or do SEO work for sites that have tens of thousands of pages, Google’s export limit of 500 rows of data can be pretty darn annoying.
For a long time, I would copy and paste the data into a spreadsheet 500 rows at a time, cursing Google with each Control-V paste command.
However, if you do a ton of number and key phrase crunching on Google Analytics data, you’ll be pleased to know that there’s a simple workaround to get more than 500 rows of data in a single Google Analytics export.
When looking at some data in your Analytics account, just put the following string at the end of the URL in your browser’s address bar and press enter:
&limit=20000
After you hit enter, you won’t see a change, but when you export your data to a CSV file, you will export 20,000 rows instead of 500 rows in the CSV file.
Last time I checked, it only worked for CSV files and not for XLS files.
This little Google Analytics trick comes in handy. It allows you to get all your analytics data into a spreadsheet without wasting time with endless copy and paste work. With the data in hand, inside of a single spreadsheet, it’s easy to find ways to make more money by expanding your SEO focus, spending more on certain keyphrases in Adwords, or optimizing your conversion rates. this only allow me to extract 20,000 rows, is there anyway to get more than 100,000 rows from it
even if i use &limit=100000 it will only get 20,000
